Learn why we value baptism at Union Chapel, and how to take this important next step.
It's more than a personal pool party. Hear Pastor Glenn explain the significance of water baptism.
or in person on Saturdays at 5:30pm, and Sundays at 8:30am, 10am, and 11:30am.
We believe EVERYONE who has given control of their lives over to Jesus should take this important step. You should be baptized if you believe the following:
1.) Jesus is the one and only Son of God
2.) Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected to pay for my sins.
3.) I will live for Him by giving Him control of my life for as long as I live.
In the Bible, baptism always follows a personal commitment. For this reason, we let each person we baptize come to make this decision on their own.
Jesus commands us to baptize others into a relationship with Him (Matthew 28:19-20). Jesus was baptized as an example for us to show what it means to completely offer ourselves to God (Matthew 3:11-17). Baptism also invites more of the Holy Spirit into your life: (Matthew 3, Mark 1, Luke 3, John 1).
Baptism is a symbolic expression of being washed clean of your sin. When you are baptized, you identify with Jesus through His death and resurrection (Romans 6:3-8). Since He gave His life for you – you receive salvation by giving your life to Him. Baptism is an outward sign of your own personal decision to live for Jesus. It symbolizes the death of your old self, and your resurrection to new life in Christ. Baptism is to a Christian what a wedding is to a couple committed to each other for life.
Come early! About 20 minutes before service, come to the Chapel lobby (Building 2) to sign in, get your baptism shirt, get a picture, and drop off everything except one of your towels. Then grab a seat in the gym. Baptisms typically happen during the closing song, so make your way to the baptistery as soon as our pastor gives the cue. Our baptistery has steps that lead up to it, and we have people who can help you in and out. If you're not comfortable getting in the baptistery, we'll be glad to have you sit in a chair and we will baptize you by putting water from the baptistery on your head. Once you're situated, we'll ask you: “Do you trust Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and will you live for Him the rest of your life?” Say yes, and we’ll baptize you! Wait up front until everyone else has been baptized then you can leave together to pick up your things in the Chapel.
Don't forget to invite all of your family, friends, and coworkers to come celebrate this special day with you!
